Drofdarb’s Ten Best College Football Bowl Match Ups
Here are my ten favorite match ups of the 2010-11 college football bowl season:
10. #15 Nevada (12-1) vs Boston College (7-5) – Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl - January 9, 2011 – 9:00 PM ET

Boston College boast the nations best run defense allowing just 80 yards per game but will be facing Colin Kaepernick, Vai Taua, and the Wolf Pack rushing attack averaging over 300 yards per game – something’s gotta give.
9. #24 Hawaii (10-3) vs Tulsa (9-3) – Hawaii Bowl – December 24, 2010 – 8:00 PM ET
Expect a shootout on the islands – both teams are averaging over 39 points per game and feature high-powered passing games.
8. Connecticut (8-4) vs #7 Oklahoma (11-2) – Fiesta Bowl – January 1, 2011 – 8:30 PM ET
The Sooners face another unheralded opponent in the Fiesta Bowl – will Bob Stoops have them prepared for Randy Edsall’s scrappy Huskies’ squad?
7. #20 South Carolina (9-4) vs #23 Florida State (9-4) – Chick-fil-A Bowl – December 31, 2010 – 7:30 PM ET
This could be a good one – Steve Spurrier will be facing his old rivals from Tallahassee but will have his first encounter with the Noles new head coach Jimbo Fisher.
6. #16 Alabama (9-3) vs #9 Michigan State (11-1) – Capital One Bowl – January 1, 2011 – 1:00 PM ET
The Spartans shared the Big Ten championship and despite not receiving a BCS Bowl bid they get to face Nick Saban the defending national champions.
5. #19 Utah (10-2) vs #11 Boise State (11-1) – Las Vegas Bowl – December 22, 2010 – 8:00 PM ET

Two of the best “non-AQ” teams since the inception of the BCS will play each other in Vegas with the Utes having a 9 game bowl winning streak on the line. Will the Broncos show up despite missing out on a BCS bowl bid?
4. #6 Ohio State (11-1) vs #8 Arkansas (10-2) – Sugar Bowl – January 4, 2011 – 8:30 PM ET
Terrelle Pryor against Ryan Mallett is an intriguing quarterback match up of different styles in the Sugar Bowl. Not to mention, Ohio State has lost nine straight bowl games against SEC opponent – no pressure Buckeyes.
3. #4 Stanford (11-1) vs #13 Virgina Tech (11-2) – Orange Bowl – January 3, 2011 – 8:30 PM ET
The Hokies have won 11 in a row (should be 12) and Stanford’s only loss was at #2 Oregon in October. This game also features a good quarterback match up between Standford’s Andrew Luck and Tech’s Tyrod Taylor.
2. #5 Wisconsin (11-1) vs #3 TCU (12-0) – Rose Bowl – January 1, 2011 – 5:00 PM ET
This could be the hardest hitting game of all the bowl match ups – TCU’s fast, hard-hitting defense faces the Badgers smash mouth run game averaging nearly 250 yards per game. Expect hard-hitting – and potentially high scoring – football for four quarter at the Rose Bowl.
1. #2 Oregon (12-0) vs #1 Auburn (13-0) – BCS Naitonal Championship Game – January 10, 2011 – 8:30 PM ET
Two of the more explosive players and offenses in recent memory will play for the BCS National Championship. Cam Newton against LaMichael James and Oregon’s high-speed offense in Glendale – should be a good one.
What other bowl match ups are you looking forward to?
