The Triple-Dub – What To Watch And Why
Your weekend viewing guide - The best games of the weekend and why you should watch. Everything from College Football, to the English Premier League, to the NHL.
I tweeted about this Wednesday but figured it wouldn’t hurt to address it again on here. Now that the Stanley Cup Finals and NBA Finals are over we’re stuck with MLS, MLL, golf, tennis, soccer transfers, NHL Free Agency, lockout news (NFL & NBA), and the despicable pre-season polls until college football starts in September. In other words, it’s going to be a looong 78 days with little to keep us entertained – don’t even try suggesting baseball or NASCAR. Anyway, I guess this is just a heads up that the Triple-Dubs through the summer might be a little barren but I’ll see what I can muster.

The Open teed off yesterday at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland – you can only imagine how happy Scott Van Pelt was covering the Open in his home state. My interest waned/plummeted when Tiger announced he would miss the tournament – hopefully this helps him long-term – but I was intrigued to see Rory McIlroy’s name at the top of the leaderboard at 6-under. In case you don’t remember, McIlroy is the 22 year old Northern Irishman who blew a four-shot lead at the Masters and ended up losing by 10 strokes. Y.E. Yang and Charl Schwartzel are tied for second at 3-under-par with six others including Sergio Garcia and Louis Oosthuizen tied for fourth at 2-under. It will be interesting to see how Rory handles the early lead and who wins considering ten different players have won the last ten majors. Here’s the weekend TV coverage:
- Second Round coverage Friday – 10:00 AM-3:00 PM ET ESPN – 3:00-5:00 PM ET NBC – 5:00-6:00 PM ET ESPN
- Third Round coverage Saturday – 2:00-8:00 PM ET – NBC
- Final Round coverage Sunday – 1:30- approx 7:00 PM ET (whenever the the trophy is handed out or plans are made for an 18-hole playoff onMonday) – NBC
- ESPN3 will be streaming the tournament live throughout the weekend.
What are you watching this weekend?
