The Triple-Dub – What To Watch And Why

Each Friday I will post the top 10 or so games of the upcoming weekend (could be more or less, just depends on what is on) and give a few reasons why I am interested in the games – some will be obvious, others may not. Games will include everything from College Football, to the English Premier League, to the NHL.

I thought I would keep this week’s Triple-Dub short and to the point since it’s Christmas Eve and I’m sure most people are busy or maybe it’s just me doing last minute things.  Anyway, here are the best games this weekend with just a few reasons to watch.

College Football:

  • Friday Dec. 24th

#24 Hawaii (10-3) vs Tulsa (9-3) - Sheraton Hawaii Bowl – (Aloha Stadium – Honolulu, HI) 8:00 PM ET – ESPN

Expect a shootout – and perhaps a little rust early – as both teams average over 39 points per game and neither having a particularly impressive defense.

National Basketball Association:

  • Saturday Dec. 25th

Boston Celtics (23-4) @ Orlando Magic (17-2) (Amway Center – Orlando, FL) 2:30 PM ET – ABC

The new look Magic (Arenas, Turkoglu, & Richardson) snapped the Spurs 10 game winning streak Thursday night – how will they fare against Boston’s bigs and one of the Eastern Conference favorites?

Miami Heat (22-9) @ Los Angeles Lakers (21-8) (Staples Center – Los Angeles, CA) 5:00 PM ET – ABC

Not sure much of an explanation is needed here. Kobe, Pau Gasol, and the Lakers against D-Wade (hopefully), LeBron, and the Heat on Christmas day – should be entertaining.

Denver Nuggets (16-11) @ Oklahoma City Thunder (20-10) (Oklahoma City Arena – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) 8:00 PM ET – ESPN

The Nuggets are likely to be without Carmelo who is dealing with a family tragedy but both teams will still look to run in the open court.  Tune in to see two of the better young players in the league – Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook of the Thunder.

National Football League:

  • Sunday Dec. 26th

New York Jets (10-4) @ Chicago Bears (10-4) (Soldier Field – Chicago, IL) 1:00 PM ET – CBS

The Jets got a big road win last week against the Steelers?? – can they get another this week against the Bears but perhaps without Mark Sanchez?

New York Giants (9-5) @ Green Bay Packers (8-6) (Lambeau Field – Green Bay, WI) 4:15 PM ET – FOX

Aaron Rodgers returns for the Packers who gave the Patriots all they could handle last week. How do the Giants respond after last week’s devastating loss to the Eagles?  Both teams really need to win this game to improve their playoff chances.

  • Monday Dec. 27th

New Orleans Saints (10-4) @ Atlanta Falcons (12-2) (Georgia Dome – Atlanta, GA) 8:30 PM ET – ESPN

Falcons have quietly been one of the best teams in the league all season – will they send a message to the league and sweep the season series with the defending Super Bowl Champs?

English Premier League:

  • Monday Dec. 27th

Chelsea (9-4-4 -31 pts) @ Arsenal (10-2-5  - 32 pts) (Emirates Stadium – London, England) 3:00 PM ET – ESPN2

The Blues visit the Emirates to take on the Gunners as both teams aim to keep pace with league leaders Manchester United. Arsenal has struggled against Chelsea in recent years and especially Didier Drogba who has scored 13 goals in 13 games against the Gunners.

What games will you be watching this weekend?

Merry Christmas everyone!
